ORIENTATION AND PRACTICAL INFORMATION

Lyon is divided into nine arrondissements (districts). The ler, 2eme, and 4eme lie on the presqu’ile (peninsula), which juts south toward the Saone (to the west) and the Rhone (to the east) rivers. Starting in the south, the 2eme (the centre ville) includes the Gare de Perrache and place Bellecour. The ler houses the nocturnal Terraux neighborhood, with its cafes and popular student-packed bars. Farther north is the 4eme and the Croix-Rousse. The main pedestrian roads on the presqu’ile are rue de la Republique and rue Victor Hugo. West of the Saone, Fourviere Hill and its basilica overlook Vieux Lyon (5eme). East of the Rhone (3eme and 6-8eme) lies the Part-Dieu train station (3eme) and most of the city’s population.
