SURELY THERE’S NOTHING BETTER THAN CHECKING INTO A SUPER- SLICK

Four Seasons hotel in one of the world’s most exciting cities? Well, how about a brand-new one in the heart of Downtown NYC? Opened in October 2016, this latest addition to the city is nothing short of awesome. Occupying 24 floors of an 84-storey building (the rest are off-the-scale apartments), expect everything to be large: lofty, airy rooms designed in pale, soothing tones of sky blue, cream and dove-grey (perhaps to counteract the constant buzz outside) start as big as 400ft, and even the lobby is a vast two storeys. On your first morning, go to the third floor.

You’ll find it’s taken up by a 75ft glossy swimming pool and a huge 24/7 spa. Get there early enough and it’ll just be you floating amidst those views of the Manhattan skyline. Next up, it’s breakfast and, rather brilliantly, the hotel has the very first CUT by Wolfgang Puck restaurant in the city, which has become a hotspot all of its own. And wha a destination.

You won’t have tasted avocado on toast like this (the basil pesto aioli is a game-changer), and the bar deserves an award for coolest ever: it’s dark and moody, with lightning-bolt-shaped red lights framing an incredible array of sophisticated bottles. Pull up a ruby- coloured leather chair and ask the charming barman for a Manhattan (obvs) while you ponder what to have for dinner. We recommend prepping your taste buds for the American Wagyu ribs with cauliflower purée and Bengali tomato chutney.

OUR KIND OF LUXE

It’s a quick stroll over to the Hudson river with all of its biking and walking pathways; the best way to spend a day (when you’re not shopping). GO Doubles start at £550 a night (four seasons.com/newyorkdowntown). British Airways (ba.com) flies from £398 return.
