It winds through White Mountain National Forest, crossing the Presidential and Franconia Ranges, the two highest mountain ranges in the state, and then traverses the less lofty but incredibly rugged Mahoosuc Range at the Maine border. The scenery throughout this state is magnificent, and the views are some of the finest to be found along the entire Appalachian Trail. The difficulty of the entire New Hampshire portion should not be underestimated, however. Much of the time it’s extremely rough and strenuous. Camping Regulations: Camping and campfires
