					<description><![CDATA[<p>Copenhagen&#8217;s most charming squares, with brightly coloured old houses, some of them dating from the 18th c. On fine summer days the square is a favourite resort of students, daydreamers and others with time on their hands. From here it is a short distance back to Nytorv by way of Stroget. The busy Town Hall Square (Radhus-pladsen), which is due to be replanned, is dominated by the‘Town Hall (Radhus, 1 892-1 905) with a 106 m (350 ft) high tower, is built partly in Italian Renaissance style, partly modelled on medieval Danish architecture. The building is richly adorned with sculpture </p>

					<description><![CDATA[<p>From Town Hall Square the pedestrian precinct known as Stroget, a succession of short streets running into one another, extends E to Kongens Nytorv, lined by shops, boutiques and street cafes. A little way E of Town Hall Square the street opens out to form two squares, Gammel Torv and Nytorv. In Nytorv are old patrician houses dating from about 1800. Farther along Stroget, on the left, is the Church of the Holy Ghost (Hel-ligandskirken), with the Helligandshus, the only medieval building in Copenhagen, originally belonging to a monastery. 					<description><![CDATA[<p>The oldest parts of the Citadel (Kastel-let), formerly known as Frederikshavn Citadel, date from 1625. When Denmark lost its possessions E of the 0resund (now southern Sweden) in 1658 and Copenhagen thus became a frontiertown, the fortifications of the Citadel were strengthened. The buildings within the Citadel have been preserved, including its two handsome gates. In the large park adjoining are the Freedom Museum, commemorating the Danish Resistance movement against the Nazis (1940-5), the elegant English Church (St Alban&#8217;s) and the Gefion Fountain (1908), which shows the goddess Gefion with her oxen ploughing the island of Zealand out ofthe soil </p>
