(1924-2005). Catholic priest Rev. Jerald H. Merrill had a long and varied career, much of which he dedicated to serving the Latino community in Utah. He graduated with a chemical-engineering degree from the University of Utah in 1948 and was ordained a Catholic priest in 1958. He worked in the Diocese of Salt Lake between 1958 and 1982. During this time, he was one of the leaders of SOCIO. He resigned his position, married, and later became an Episcopal priest. He dedicated his second priestly ministry to serving the homeless in and around downtown
