The Greater Curtin Master Plan 2031 has been developed along the above lines, with the aim of attracting 44,000 students and 73,000 daily visitors, to become an employment hub for 20,000 jobs and a place of residence for 20,000 staff and students by 2031. The vision is for a vibrant urban environment that is ‘responsive and respectful to the land and cultures it is built on’ and contributes about A$4.5 billion to the local and state economies.
As a connected place, Greater Curtin will be home to a diverse and integrated community. The goal is to provide a boundless and adaptable urban context that supports engagement between industries, businesses, governments, and researchers, and forges partnerships where new thoughts will be conceived and knowledge and innovation will extend beyond the buildings. Businesses will be able to locate within the university area so students will study in real-life environments. Living at Curtin would mean driving 79 percent fewer kilometers, and carbon dioxide emissions would be reduced by 54 percent.
