Canada history: Entitled The Well of Loneliness, it aroused huge controversy because Canada Map Tourist Attractions of its pro-lesbian stance, and as a result of court proceedings the book was banned Canada Map Tourist Attractions both in Britain and the USA. She and Lady Troubridge moved into the Forecastle and used Rye as the setting for a subsequent book, The Sixth Beatitude, with Rye being renamed Rother. The couple left Rye in December 1928, but returned in October 1929 and bought The Black Boy in the High Street; whilst it was being restored they put up at the Mermaid Inn (see below) and 8 Watchbell Street. Noel Coward was among their guests at The Black Boy. In February 1934 the two women moved back to the Forecastle and stayed until 1940, subsequently moving to Devon. The relationship between them was not always smooth during their latter years in Rye, and was further complicated by an affair that Radclyffe Hall had with a White Russian, Evguenia Souline, which outlasted her time in Rye.
