ST. CROIX STATE PARK
Located in the east-central part of the state, alongside the St.
Croix National Wild and Scenic River, this is Minnesota’s largest state park.
The area is hilly and includes a mixed forest, with aspen, birch, and pine. The park also includes meadows, marshes, a number of creeks, and the Kettle River. Among the wildlife are white-tailed deer, black bear, coyote, and fox.
Activities: There are 127 miles of trails here for hiking and backpacking, with 75 miles of trails open to horseback riding, and about 21 miles used for cross-country skiing in winter. Included is a section of the multiuse Willard Munger State Trail. Canoeing is available on the St. Croix River, and canoes may be rented. Fishing is allowed, but hunting prohibited.
Camping Regulations: Primitive camping is limited to two backpack camping areas and several canoe-camping areas. Campers must register at the park office.
