FERNE CLYFFE STATE PARK
Surrounded by Shawnee National Forest lands in southern Illinois, this state park is noted for its distinctive rock formations. It also has a large cave, a 100-foot waterfall, and a 16-acre lake. Forests are of hickory, oak, and maple, with redbud and dogwood.
Activities: Hiking and backpacking are possible on 11 miles of trails. There’s also an 8-mile horse trail. Hunting and fishing are allowed in season.
Camping Regulations: A single designated backpack camping area is located a half-mile from a parking lot. Primitive camping is restricted to this area.
