CAMBRIDGE MAP

In contrast to metropolitan Oxford, Cambridge is determined to retain its pastoral academic robes. As the tourist office will tell you, the city manages (rather than encourages) visitors. No longer the exclusive preserve of upper-class sons, the university now welcomes women and state-school pupils; during May Week, which marks term’s end, Cambridge shakes off its reserve with gin-soaked glee.
