Axamer Lizum is the capital of the district of the same name in northwestern Turkey. The city has a population of around 163,000 people. The district is located on the shores of Lake Van and is composed of several towns and villages. The climate is temperate and the region is fertile.
The city’s most important landmark is the 13th-century Seljuk fortress of Kale.
The city also has a number of other historical buildings, including a mosque from the 15th century and an eighteenth-century palace. Axamer Lizum was founded by the Seljuks in 1072 as an agricultural market town on the road between Edirne and Sinop. It became an administrative center in 1299 and was made the seat of a bey (district governor) in 1468. In 1830 it was declared a sancak (subdistrict) within the Province of Erzurum, and in 1876 it became an independent kazas (town).
The economy is based on agriculture, trade, handicrafts, and services. The city has a number of schools and hospitals as well as a theater and an art museum.

Where is Axamer Lizum located?
Axamer Lizum is located in northwestern Turkey, about 120 kilometers south of the city of Istanbul.
The municipality covers an area of 4,351 square kilometers and has a population of 189,000.
The town grew up around the ancient ruins of Zeugma, which were first settled in the fourth millennium BC. The ruins include a Hellenistic theater and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Zeugma is also known for its hot springs, which were used by the Roman army in the third century AD.

The exhibits are well-done and the staff is friendly and informative. It’s open Monday-Friday 9am-1pm and Saturday 10am-1pm. Admission is free.
-The Church of Saint Nicholas: Built in the 12th century, this church is one of the oldest in Axamer Lizum. The interior is decorated with frescoes and marble columns, and there’s a small museum inside featuring religious artifacts from all over Europe. The church is open daily from 8am to 7pm, and admission is free.
