Beaches of China

China has a number of good beaches for swimming (see below) as well as those along its east coast at Weihai in the north and Tsingtau, Zhoushan, Ningbo and Fuzhou further south.

A word ofwarning Swimmers have recently been killed by sharks off Hong Kong’s beaches, including Sai Kung; in any case find out about beach conditions from the local CITS (see Information) and take heed ofwarning flags, etc.

Hainan Island Hainan Island off the South China mainland isfamousfor its palm-fringed white sandy beaches, and with its 300 days of sunshine a year, average annual temperature of 22°C/71°Fand gentle swell makes a very good place for a holiday by the sea.

In the south of the island a beach of fine sand stretches for 7.2km/4’/2 miles along Yalongwan Bay, a popular centre for water sports 10km/6 miles out of Sanya, which also has another bathing beach 3km/2 miles to the south-east.
