Ltd, West Hartlepool built and completed her as Yard No.1009 in September 1928; she was launched on 2 August 1928 for Sir James Herbert Cory, Bart. at Cardiff. The single bronze screw was powered by a 423-nhp, three-cylinder triple expansion steam engine that used three single-ended boilers working at a pressure of 180 psi, with nine furnaces and giving 10 knots.
