Tampere is a city of lakes and parks. It is situated in Southern Finland some 160 kilometers from both Helsinki and Turku. With its over 171,600 inhabitants, Tampere is the biggest inland town in the Nordic countries. From a modest start, the city has developed into one of the leading centers in the country within trade, industry, cultural activities, sports and tourism. The city has good facilities for accomodation in regard to both quality and quantity: many good hotels, motels and several summer hotels. All shops, department stores, market places, theaters, restaurants etc. are within reach, even by foot. The Art Nouveau-style buildings around the Central Square, as well as several interesting museums, tell about the history of Tampere.
