Located on the north side of Highway 13 (48th Avenue) at the Bill Fowler Centre in Mirror Lake Park, the Camrose Tourist Information Centre honours the city’s strong Scandinavian history with a half-scale replica of the Viking longship that carried Vikings around the world and brought Leif Eriksson to North America in about 1000 AD.
The Visitor Information Centre contains interpretive panels that describe park features and city history and a nature mural sculpted out of red brick. More than three kilometres of paved and lit walking paths encircle Mirror Lake and lead to various picnic sites, outdoor sculptures, historical and educational trail signs, a playground, and public washrooms.
Enjoy a ride on the 28-metre-long Mirror Lake Express Train (Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. from June to August). Start your journey at the arbour in Mirror Lake Park or watch for chances to hop on board this 24-passenger train at other city events.
