Another powerhouse educational institution with a museum of equal caliber. The MIT Museum features demonstrations on holography, strobe light sculptures, and math in three dimensions! Don’t miss the MIT Hall of Hacks, displaying famous pranks for which these clever students are known including the police car that suddenly appeared one day on top of the MIT dome. Admission is $3, $1 for students, seniors, and children under twelve. Open Tuesdays through Fridays from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. Saturdays and Sundays noon to 5 P.M.
MIT also has two galleries at 77 Massachusetts Avenue. The Hart Nautical Gallery has the exhibit Ships for Victory: American Shipbuilding’s Finest Hour, with photographs and artifacts from World War fi era shipbuilding. And, the Compton Gallery features a wonderful display exploring the role MIT played in winning World War II. Both of these galleries are free at all times.
