The reservoir a little further on has become the rallying spot j for New Yorkers who like to play football in the evenings. In fact the park is quite a paradise for active sports lovers. There is something going on every day, but most of all on Sundays in the summer. Miles of bicycle and bridle paths are found in the park, along with tennis courts, an ice-skating rink, a pond for sailing model boats and adventure playgrounds for children. Free open-air concerts and operas are presented in the Sheep Meadow during the summer months. The Delacorte Theater, south of 81st Street on the West Side of the park, is the place to see the excellent Shakespeare in the Park festival. Also free, but you must line up ahead of time for tickets.
