The first published St. Louis Map was issued in 1842 by city surveyor Rene Paul. In 1835, he created a larger version of the map, which was included in Eugene Charles Dupre’s Atlas of the City and County of St. Louis. In 1842, he had the map lithographed by Lehman & Duval. Hundreds of other residents submitted maps as well. They all gave wildly varying views of the city.
