Wedding in California How to Get Married in California

California dreaming Nichola Weiss, 25, married Alex Salibian, 27, at The Ritz-Carlton Bacara, Santa Barbara, on 4th August 2018. She says: Alex and I both grew up on the coast of southern California – I’m from Santa Monica, he’s from Long Beach. The Pacific Ocean had to be the backdrop for our wedding, as it was an integral part of our childhoods.

We booked our venue without visiting it – we knew how quickly places get booked and didn’t want to miss out. It was risky, but friends and family vouched for it being beautiful. It was very important to us that our ceremony and reception were held at the same venue, as we wanted to give a seamless experience for our guests. Our decor took shape once I found my dress: with a fairytale gown, the atmosphere had to feel whimsical and delicate.

We had lots of candles and blush hues – I was never a pink girl until we started wedding planning! Alex works in the music industry and produced Young The Giant’s album. For our first dance, they performed a song Alex wrote with them called You + I. It was a huge highlight and our guests loved it. The biggest expense? Food and flowers. We didn’t want to skimp on either – we’re big foodies, and knew the flowers would set the tone for the day. My top tip Don’t compromise on your photographer – the wedding will last one day, the pictures last a lifetime!
