A Handy Cooler Fishing

Have you ever stopped to fish on the spur of the moment and caught a beauty that you would have taken home if only you had a cooler to preserve your catch? As long as you have a wool jacket or shirt, you have no problem. My favorite method is to stick the fish in one of the sleeves of a wet wool jacket and then wrap the rest of the jacket around the sleeve. A variation of this trick once kept a salmon frozen for 10 hours. As wet wool dries, evaporation cools it down and if you wrap a fish thoroughly in wool and dunk the whole thing, it will remain cool for hours. Just be sure to keep it out of direct sunlight. Dry wool is also a good insulator and can keep frozen objects hard for extended periods. Fortunately, fish odor is easily removed in the washing machine.
