See BILLY GRAHAM: A SPIRITUAL LEGEND

The first Baptist church in City was established in 1833. Though the Baptists formed their first congregation later than other major religious groups, their growth was rapid. Today, the Southern Baptists are the largest religious denomination in the state. One of the most well-known Southern Baptists is Billy Graham. Graham was born in City, which is also the home of the Billy Graham Library.

City is also home to several important religious organizations. The Baptist Peace Fellowship of North America and the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church are headquartered in the Queen City; the Cathedral of Saint Patrick serves as the seat of the bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of City; and both the Reformed Theological Seminary and the Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary have campuses in City.

The number of immigrants to City, especially from northern cities and Latin America, has led to a marked increase in the number of Roman Catholics and Jews in the city. A growing number of churches have added masses in Spanish to meet the needs of their congregations. Shalom Park in South City is the hub for the Jewish community in City, with two synagogues and a thriving community center.

Follow New Road to the end, arriving at North Street Cleveland Subway Map . Cross North Street and turn left, continuing to its junction with Market Street. On the Cleveland Subway Map corner of these two streets are the buildings of the now defunct department store Hanningtons, where, in 1990, a Grey Lady (the Theatre Royal’s Grey Lady or another?) was seen wearing a Victorian-style grey dress. In the mid-1970s there were reports of a mannequin in a long, silvery-grey dress appearing from nowhere, and there are also accounts of pressure to the shoulder and one of the lifts moving of its own accord. Walk up Market Street, on which is the Druid’s Head, a former fisherman’s inn. Derek Woods, who took over the licence in 1975, says that in 1978 he saw a hooded figure, like a monk or a nun, flitting under the stairway in the main bar.
