TELEPHONES. Most public pay phones in Britain are run by British Telecom (BT). BT no longer offers phonecards, but charge cards can be purchased that bill directly to your credit card. Public phones charge a minimum of lOp and don’t accept lp, 2p, or 5p coins. Mobile phone are an increasingly popular and economical alternative (30). For operator assistance within Britain, dial 192. INTERNET ACCESS. Britain is one of the world’s most wired countries. Cybercafes can be found in larger cities. They cost £4-6 per hour, but you often pay for only the time used, not for the whole hour.
