The French Library offers lectures, films, and language instruction, and cooking classes for the Francophiles among us. Lovers of French film will want to check out the Cine Club, which offers films in French (with English subtitles) every Thursday and Friday at 8 PM. Classic and current cinema from the folks who invented the New Wave. Admission is $5, and $4 for members; or get a book of ten for $35. On Wednesday afternoons they offer free video screenings.

Topics from world travel to French cooking are presented in regular lectures at this elegant Back Bay center. Some are given in French, some in English. Most lectures are free to the public, though reservations are recommended; receptions follow the talks, the French Library also sponsors several music series, including a jazz series.

While visiting, don’t miss the art gallery with its regular exhibitions of paintings and photography by French and American artists. The library is open Tuesdays from noon to 8 P.M. Wednesdays through Saturdays from 10 A.M. to 5 P.M. and until 8 P.M. on Wednesday and Thursday evenings.
