Sanderson London

Fortunately there is no need to go down a rabbit hole to enjoy this fairytale experience, just a requirement that you join in the fun. Alice in Wonderland would be thrilled by this quirky afternoon tea, and have been tempted to say ‘curiouser and curiouser as she finished off the contents of the bottle marked ‘Drink me’. A wonderful concoction of flavours such as apple pie, lemon curd and English toffee – linger in the mouth as you try to identify each one. The rainbow-coloured finger sandwiches – cucumber and black pepper on beetroot bread is one – are a feast for the eyes and the tummy, and the scones are, well, fluffy and light as air. Fancy cakes are designed to remind you of characters like the White Rabbit with an individual chocolate cake which looks like a pocket watch, and the Queen of Hearts, which begs you, in icing, to ‘Eat Me. A hazelnut praline ice cream lollipop explodes with a single bite, and a twirl of a fruit flavoured one will turn your mouth from hot to cold. On warm days you can take tea in the landscaped inner courtyard, on others sit in the bustling, modern Suka restaurant, with its mix of tables and chairs or long tables and high stools. An unusual tea which delights children and adults alike, and one which is great fun for a celebration and will make you grin like the Cheshire cat.
