The Raft, Adrift on the Current
The raft is the greatest means of transport we ever used in the north. Even while you’re eating or sleeping you’re still making progress! But you do have to build the raft first.
The best design for the frame is to notch two logs and fasten them with a threaded rod that is bolted ot both ends.
Oil drums are trapped under the roft but are not attached to it. That way, if they take on water, they sink without weighing down the raft.
Our raft, with two oars, one in front and one behind. The ridgepole of our tent was supported on one side by the mast and on the other by two crossed poles. We had a table, benches, and o brick hearth.
