PYRAMID STATE PARK

Located in a hilly region of southern Illinois, Pyramid State Park includes a large number of lakes and ponds. The area is forested with oak and hickory, along with some conifers. Deer are among the park’s wildlife.

Activities: There are 17 miles of trails here for hiking and backpacking. Some trails are open to horseback riding, and mountain bikes are also permitted on trails. Canoeing is available on the lakes, and fishing is possible. Hunting is permitted in season.

Camping Regulations: Camping is allowed at a number of designated campsites, located along a couple of the trails. A permit is required, and this must be obtained from the park office. A small fee is charged. Campfires are restricted to established fireplaces.
