This is an excellent if extremely deep wrecksite and will make a very good boat-angling venue. The Auckland Castle (Official No. 86358) was a 1084-ton riveted iron-hulled steam cargo ship measuring 68.58 m in length, with a 9.77-m beam and a 4.87-m draught. S. P. Austin and Son at Wear Dock, Sunderland built and completed her as Yard No.143 in August 1883; she was launched on 21 August 1883 for Mordey and Carney at Newport.
