INNSBRUCK
The 1964 and 1976 winter Olympics were held in Innsbruck (pop. 128,000), bring ing international recognition to this beautiful mountain city. The nearby Tyrolean Alps await skiers and hikers, and the tiny cobblestone streets of the Altstadt are peppered with fancy facades and relics of the Habsburg Empire.
TRANSPORTATION AND PRACTICAL INFORMATION
Trains: Hauptbahnhof, SOdtirolerpl. (05 17 17). To: Munich (2hr. 13 per day, 32); Rome (8&9Vihr. 2 per day, 60); Salzburg (2’2hr. 13 per day, 30); Vienna West bahnhof (5‘2-7hr. 10 per day, 47); Zurich (4hr. 4 per day, 44).
Public Transportation: The IVB Office, Stainerstr. 2 ( 530 17 99), near Maria-There- sien-Str. has bus schedules. Open M-F 7:30am-6pm. The main bus station is in front of the entrance to the train station. Most buses stop running at 10:30 or 11:30pm, but 3 Nachtbus lines continue through the night.
Bike Rental: Sport Neuner, Maximillianstr. 23 (56 15 01). Mountain bikes and hel mets 20 per day, 16 per half day. Open M-F 9am-6pm, Sa 9am-noon.
Tourist Office: Innsbruck Tourist Office, Burggraben 3, 3rd fl. ( 598 50). Off the end of Museumstr. Sells maps (1) and the Innsbruck Card, which provides unlimited access to public transportation and most museums. (24hr. card 21, 48hr. 26, 72hr. 31.) Open M-F 8am-6pm, Sa 8am-noon.
