Until recently a second-run movie-house, the Regent now mixes its movies with live theatrical shows. Flicks are still a bargain, with tickets just $2.50 to $4. Live shows are pricier, naturally, but still quite reasonable: Musical events are usually $14 to $16 ($9 to $11 for senior citizens and students). Non-musicals are $10 to $12 ($8 to $10 seniors and students).

Shows are performed by various local troupes. Call for upcoming events.

The seabed at the base of the reef is sand with kelp-covered boulders. There are not many crevices in the reef but you can often pick up a few whelks on the sandy bottom. To the northwest of the reef there are a lot of little reefs covered in really dense kelp but little variety of marine life about. At the southern end of North Wamses is the site where I discovered the old ship’s bell from The Pearle. This whole area has a thick covering of kelp and tangleweed with a shallow plateau of rock running two thirds of the way along the North Wamses, commencing just past the large V-shaped cut towards the northern end. The shelf or plateau is only a few metres deep beneath the surface and extends up to 30 metres out and west from the Wamses. There are a number of gullies and three pot-holes a couple of metres deep on the top, surrounded by overhanging, dense tangleweed. Currents are fairly mild on the neap ebb tide but can be very strong on the flood and especially so on spring tides. On the flood, the sea rushes up over the shallow ground from deep water to the north and can turn you upside down when crossing over the reef. The depth immediately around the plateau is around 7-10 metres.
