Nice France Map Tourist Attractions ACCOMMODATIONS To sleep easy, come to Nice with reservations. Hotels fill up quickly, especially in the summertime, so book at least a few weeks in advance. The city has two clusters of budget accommodations near the train station and near Vieux Nice. Those by the station are newer but less centrally located, and the walk home at night can be unsettling for those traveling alone. Hotels closer to Vieux Nice are more convenient but tend to be less modem. HOSTELS Relais International de la Jeunesse “Clairvallon,” 26 av. Scuderi (04 93 81 27 63; clajpaca@cote-dazur.com),

Nice France Guide for Tourist SIGHTS Many visitors to Nice head straight for the beaches and don’t retreat from the sun and water until the day is done. Whatever dreams you’ve had about Nice’s beach, though, the hard reality is an endless stretch of rocks; bring a beach mat if you plan to soak up the sun in comfort. Contrary to popular opinion, there are things in Nice more worthwhile than a long, naked sunbath on a bunch of pebbles. MUSEE NATIONAL MESSAGE BIBLIQUE MARC CHAGALL.

Nice France Travel Destinations CATHEDRALE ORTHODOXE RUSSE ST-NICOLAS. Also known as the Eglise Russe, this cathedral was commissioned by Empress Marie Feodorovna, widow of Tsar Nicholas I. Modeled after St-Basil’s in Moscow, the onion-domed structure quickly became a spiritual home for exiled Russian nobles. The gilded screen concealing the altar also sets it apart from French cathedrals. There’s one hint, however, that the cathedral is influenced by the Riviera: Its dominant colors are Mediterranean light blue and yellow rather than dark and somber blues and grays.
