You know The Tasty, established in 1916 (so it says in the window); it’s that tiny comer counter facing Out Of Town News. Unlike so much of the Hah-vahd area, this joint ain’t fancy and it sure ain’t high-priced. There is only room for about a dozen people looking for a quick burger or a cup o’ coffee. And it’s open all night
It does help if you love grease. Most food comes off the griddle, like cheeseburgers for a mere $2.25. It’s a thin patty, so Mine recommends the double version ($3.50). Grilled cheese and bacon sandwiches are $3; deluxe sandwiches sport local names like the Brattle Club not a secret society, but a sandwich of two burger patties, a fried egg, lettuce, and tomato on a bun, with French fries all for $5.
Plus soups, omelettes, and French toast. And what better way to top it all off than with a good ol’ Boston ffappe? These are $2.75. The Tasty is a great little window on the square and possibly on another place in time.
