Ever since The Wolseley opened it’s doors in November 1993, it has gained a reputation as one of the most stylish restaurants in London. It is hard to believe that this magnificent Grade II listed building, with the grand pillars, marble floors, sweeping staircases and loggias was originally designed in the 1920s as a prestigious car showroom, but such is the evolution of the building. Now a Grand Cafe, the place positively hums with activity all day long, so don’t expect to sit in peace and quiet here. The staff are very attentive, and will happily bring you a newspaper whilst you wait for your friend to arrive!

Afternooon tea is served in the tea room and the main restaurant and the set afternoon tea, on its tiered stand, is as traditional as it comes. There is a selection of finger sandwiches, excellent fruit scones and a selection of pastries and cakes, or you can opt for just scones and cream, or decide to have just cake and tea. The small selection of leaf teas includes the The Wolseley’s own Afternoon Blend, English Breakfast, Earl Grey, Darjeeling, Ceylon, Assam, Jasmine and Green. A favourite with celebrities, you never know who’ll you’ll be sitting next to.
