Travaasa Hana Maui Island Hawaii, The property is considered one of the most remarkable and remote resorts in Hawaii. A few impressions before starting my grand tour. Getting to the Travaasa Hana Hotel is half the fun. Hana is located at the end of the ‘Road to Hana1, one of the world’s most scenic roads. Ne rented a vintage van for the trip to Hana. It was a dream of the kids to make the famous journey to Hana in a van. The kids slept most of the way :-).
The 52 mi or 84 km drive takes anywhere from two to four hours. There are several scenic stops along the way. The first stop is Hookipa Beach, considered the world’s windsurfing capital. Hookipa Beach is also home to Hawaiian Green Sea You almost don’t realize they’re there because they look just like scattered bouf. The small hotel group also manages another hotel in Austin, Texas (USA).
The decor reflects Hana’s natural & cultural significance. Sustainable materials, Hawaiian artwork, and traditional kapa bark cloth are used. An acclaimed art gallery is located at the end of the lobby. It sells crafted handwork and decorative collectibles from the Hawaiian islands. The hotel has one restaurant, The Preserve Kitchen & Bar. It is open seven days a week for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The open-air restaurant has . The airy interior reflects Hana’s low-key lifestyle. Food at the restaurants is very pricey. There are also a few trucks and shacks in the area, offering mouth watering street food.
The cuisine uses local (and often organic) ingredients. I have breakfast in the restaurant’s verandah later in this post. The terrace overlooks the gardens and Kauiki Hill . This hill, on the south east side of Hana Bay, is famous for legend and historic«events7. It takes a bit of rain to keep Hana so lush and green. This side of the island is greener, wetter, and windier than most of Maui. A bar is located next to the restau. It’s never very crowded here, because of the remote. The lobby also houses a library. The space features a desktop PC with high-speed Internet access. All rooms are located along beautiful lawns.
The most expensive cottages are set on a hill overlooking the Pacific Ocean (shown later). I stayed in this room during my visit. Room category: garden junior suite. It’s very hard to find a tranquil pool in Hawaii. Travaasa Hana delivers when you are looking for a peaceful retreat away from the crowds.

The road that runs through the property is not busy. It’s only used for local traffic and actually adds to the charm of the hotel. The hotel provides free shuttle service to Hamoa Beach. Author James Michener called Hamoa Beach the most beautiful in the Pacific. The beautiful crescent white beach has strong currents. The hotel provides private lounge chairs and beach umbrellas for guests only. Waianapanapa State Park is also close by (10 min drive). This black-sand beach offers good swimming, snorkeling and freshwater pools. Dusk is the best time for a visit to the spa.
The spa complex – located in the lush garden – was added to the property in 2004. Treatments are pricey. There’s also an onsite boutique shop that sells Hawaiian-made spa products. including the outdoor, coed lava pool. The spa has a lovely, tranquil garden. Guests can make free use of spa facilities.
