HISTORY
The name Paris originates from the Celtic tribe Paris who in the 5th century settled on the Seine island, nowadays He de la Cite. Under Roman rule it became Lutetia. By the 13th century 200.000 were living there. In the 15th century Paris was renowned owing to the power of its kings who had tamed the nobility. 14th July 1789 saw the storming of the Bastille and the beginning of the French Revolution. In the 19th century the Seine city already looked like what it is today due to the masterly design of the broad avenues and parks by Baron Haussman who under the rule of Napoleon III,( nephew of Napoleon Bonaparte), directed the major works that transformed Paris.
