In Mozart’s backyard stands the Universitatskirche, one of the largest Baroque chapels on the continent and designer Fischer von Erlach’s masterpiece. Sculpted clouds coat the nave, while pudgy cherubim (lit by pale natural light from the dome) frolic all over the church’s immense apse.

Ltd, Meadowside, Glasgow built and completed her as Yard No. 389 in May 1896; she was launched as the Bellasco on 2 March 1896 for Bellasco S.S. Co. Ltd, Glasgow, and Bell Brothers and McLelland was the manager. The single screw was powered by a 302-nhp three-cylinder triple expansion steam engine that used three boilers. The cylinders measured 60.96 cm, 101.6 cm and 167.64 cm with a 121. 92-cm stroke (24 in. 40 in. and 66 in. with a 48-in. stroke). Shipbuilders D.and W. Henderson and Co. manufactured the machinery. The San Bernardo left Norway on 8 August 1916 and was SE of the Longstone at 1140 hrs on 10 August when a submarine was sighted two miles distant, with two flags flying.
