The middle of the bus is rather boring undulating rock with very few crevices and not much of interest, but plenty of urchins and small crabs. Around the edge on the western and northern sides there are small reef walls and lots of soft corals and anemones. Occasionally, the odd lobster or crab can be found under the overhangs at the reef’ base, but it is a slack water dive because the tidal streams are very strong. It is worth bearing in mind too, that the Tree o’ the Houses is a very exposed site and that there is very little passing boat traffic if you require help. Surface marker buoys are essential here. The Goldstone is about one mile further and almost directly north from Tree o’ the Houses. It is also about 2.5 miles east of Holy Island and marked by a green conical buoy, approximately 150 metres inside (west of) Goldstone Rock, with the word Goldstone’ painted on it. The rock dries to 1.7 metres on a spring low tide and is the western end of a submerged reef called the Stiel Reef, which slopes gradually down in a southeasterly direction over a distance of about 200 metres.
