FORT MOUNTAIN STATE PARK
Fort Mountain State Park is located within the Cohutta Mountains of northern Georgia’s Chattahoochee National Forest. The park has rugged terrain with some streams, a lake, and a forest mainly of hardwoods, plus dogwood and rhododendron.
Activities: Backpacking and hiking are possible on over 14 miles of trails, including an 8.2-mile Backcountry Trail loop. Fishing is also available.
Camping Regulations: Primitive camping is limited to three separate areas located along the Back-country Trail, and campfires are allowed at the sites. A small fee is charged for each night.

The master gave the order to abandon ship and 21 of the crew got away in one boat, while the others were busy lowering another. The first boat was carried away from the stricken vessel by the heavy seas and the men in it, being scantily clad with very little food, spent a dreadful time from the Monday evening to Thursday afternoon.
