The Fallen Four Memorial Park honours four Mayerthorpe rcmp members who lost their lives on March 3, 2005. Constables Peter Schiemann, Brock Myrol, Leo Johnston, and Anthony Gordon were shot following a raid of a marijuana-growing operation on a farm near Mayerthorpe. It was the force’s greatest loss of life in a single day in more than 100 years.

The memorial also commemorates all peace officers in Canada killed in the line of duty. The park’s design centres on the number fourthe four officers, four winds, and four directional points on a compassto symbolize the rcmp’s influence throughout the country. Life-size bronze statues of the fallen officers face outward toward each of the compass’s directional points. Studio West Ltd. from Cochrane, Alberta, created and cast the centre obelisk and the bronze statues after consulting with family members to ensure their likeness to the four fallen officers.

The park is home to a 270-square-metre facility containing the Visitor Information Centre, as well as a small museum, donor-appreciation wall, and gift shop. The grand opening took place on July 4, 2008. You will find a day-use picnic area and playground here, as well as concrete benches and picnic tables situated along landscaped areas and walking paths. Be sure to note the prairie skyline from the gazebo.
