Bright signs everywhere proclaim that books here sell for up to 75% off. Most of these are publishers’ overstocks, usually with several copies of each title. When Mine visited, paperback fiction was on sale at three for $5, mainly mysteries and romances. Special deals also exist at the other end of the literary scale: Paperback classics were also three for $5, and poetry collections were just $3 each.
Non-fiction includes loads of self-help, sports, and health books.
Deepak Chopra’s Ageless Body, Timeless Mind was $5, down from $15. Hardback cookbooks were as little as $5. Snap up tons of kids’ books, too, with hardback storybooks from $1.50, and Pocahontas coloring books, normally $7.95, just $2 during its summer of hype. Venture downstairs to the basement for a selection of (mostly older) textbooks, as well as books without jackets as “buy one, get one free” deals. Meanwhile, quantity purchasing allows Bookmarket to discount even hot bestsellers. This enormous store is open Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sundays from 12 noon to 6 P.M.
