This is the place for poultry lovers with iron stomachs not because of the food, though. When the shop promises “Fresh Killed Chicken,” they mean it. Mayflower raises its birds in New Hampshire, but much of the processing is done on the Cam.

Thick tangleweed and kelp fronds grow from the top of the higher ridges and you often see big pollack hovering over the edges. A nice dive site, but very exposed and involving a long journey unless you can find a launch site at Berwick. Park Dyke is even further out to sea and very exposed during a northerly swell. The position is 20° north of east and three quarters of a mile further out to sea from the end of Wingate Reef, or 13° west of north and exactly l.47 miles from the three rocks on dive site (12). The Park Dyke is a rocky shad, a quarter of a mile wide and three quarters of a mile long. The shad is carpeted in kelp and rises from the sandy seabed at 13 metres to between 3 and 5 metres. The steep walls on the north and south sides are covered in soft corals and different kinds of anemone and there are numerous overhangs and long crevices containing shellfish. The tidal streams are very strong and it is recommended that surface marker buoys be used, because a diver surfacing can very quickly disappear into the distance. The site is very exposed to the wind and sea from the north and white horses’ often develop on the surface.
