The Leventhal-Sidman JCC is a hub for Boston’s Jewish cultural activity. The Starr Gallery mounts regular art exhibitions relating to Jewish history or its cultural heritage; recently, works by contemporary painters looking back at the Holocaust as well as an exhibit of postage stamps from that era, were on display. The interactive A Walk Through Jerusalem, took you and your children to the Holy Land. Most of these shows are free; some do charge a small admission fee for non-members.
The center is also home to the Jewish Theatre of New England, which performs two professional shows a year, and hosts six other shows by other troupes. In any one season, you may revel to klezmer music, laugh at musical comedy revues, and enjoy thoughtful dramas. Ticket prices vary according to the show; it’s usually between $10 and $20 for adults, a few bucks less for students and seniors. Season subscriptions cut costs further.
The Starr Gallery is open Sundays, Mondays and Thursdays from 10 A.M. to 4 pm. and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2 P.M. On Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, it’s also open from 6 to 9 PM
