A number of different species of fish can be seen, however. At the southern end of the Elbow is a large, deep, horseshoe-shaped bay, with 4-metre cliff-like walls surrounding it, which is what gives the reef its name. Seventy metres to the west, the seabed is strewn with large rocks and boulders at 13 metres. There is a reasonable amount of marine life about, with soft corals on the southwest corner. Fifty metres south of here is a medium-sized reef covered in soft corals and a colourful array of anemones, but it is very exposed to the strong tidal stream. This dive site is 50 metres off the southwest corner of the Oxscar, where a submerged reef wall some 3-5 metres in height runs away out from the Oxscar in a westerly direction for about 300 metres. The seabed at the base of the reef in 15 metres consists of sand and sporadic rocks with plumes of short kelp on the tops. The reef top, which has lots of boulders, gullies and channels running over it, covers a large area to the north and west and has a thick covering of kelp. At the northern side of this rocky plateau, the boulders and rocks have soft corals growing on them, which is a sure sign of the strong currents that sweep around the Oxscar. This is a nice dive where a fair amount of shelter from the current can be found under the long thick kelp strands and a good selection of marine life can be seen.
