Each summer in the Kettlebowl, a natural amphitheatre perfectly formal in the ground, the Open Door company offers outdoor theatre under the stars. Run with assistance from the Boston Parks Department, ODT offers Shakespeare, Tennessee Williams, and sometimes new works. Tickets are $10, and there is always a free night for Jamaica Plain residents.
Pilgrim Theatre

The official name is the Pilgrim Theatre Research and Performance Collaborative a mouthful which indicates their emphasis on the experimental. Indeed, Pilgrim is one of Boston’s most respected avante-garde theatrical troupes. Innovative and challenging original works have included A Tempest, adapted from Shakespeare, and Oedipus: An Archeological Improvisation for Two Actors, Musicians, and Others. Another recent piece was called Letters, based on the book Letters from Sarajevo.
Pilgrim Theatre performs in venues all over town, and ticket prices vary accordingly. Still, they generally stay in the range of $8 to $12.
