French people celebrate a number of holidays. Children receive gifts on Christmas, or Noel, and Easter, or Paques. May 8 is Victory Day, which celebrates the end of World War II. Bastille Day celebrates the “storming” of the Bastille prison in 1789. It is one of the most important events of the French Revolution.
