Not content with being a popular clothing discounter for the entire family, Burlington Coat Factory stores have expanded from within to become something almost like actual department stores. They are quite
large, and in each one, you’ll not only find discounted clothing for the whole family, but also shoes, jewelry, linens, and infant furnishings.
Most folks know of Burlington for its clothing. They carry big names at good prices; you can find all kinds of coats here like a Pierre Cardin lambskin bomber jacket, list priced at $300, for just $180, or racks of simulated fur coats for women. But there’s more here than meets the elements. Underneath those coats, guys could be wearing a Harv‚ Benard double-breasted suit of 100% wool, discounted from $400 to $180. For the gals, perhaps a nifty black two-piece Oleg Cassini set not $270, but $150. A Jones New York turtleneck sweater, reduced from $140 to $90. Size selection is good here, from petite to plus sizes for women, as well as big and tall sizes for men.
Then, there are all the fashions for children, from tots to teens. Boys’ Jor-dache ski jackets were recently seen reduced from $70 to $40; girls will look smart in a dressy red coat by London Fog, marked down from $110 to $80. Both can save ten bucks or so off Levi’s jeans, Guess? denim fashions, and others. You can also stock up on basics and accessories here, like ties, hats, and underwear (particularly Burlington hosiery, at $1 to $2 off all styles). There is also a small but serviceable jewelry counter, selling gold chains, bracelets, watches, and the like at permanent discounts of 40% to 50% off retail prices.
Now, let’s move on to the specialty stores-within-the-store. The Capezio Footwear Outlet extends these savings to all kinds of basic and classy shoes for men, women, and kids; it’s not just for dancing anymore. Current styles in dressy shoes and boots are mostly sold at $10 to $20 off list prices; for deeper discounts, though, look over on the long self-service racks, arranged by size. These are mainly closeouts and overstocks, all perfectly good. You may find a pair of red leather pumps by Bandolino, reduced from $72 to $39;
