This giant carpeting store’s home base faces the Mass. Pike at the very top of Harvard Avenue. Able sells imported rugs, wall-to-wall and remnants, most at good discounts. You may find a 5’ x 8’ hand-knotted rug from India, valued at $1,000, on sale for $399; or a 3’ x 5’ handmade Dhurrie for as little as $39.

Upstairs you’ll find more bargains, particularly in remnants of all kinds. One overstock sale on Mine’s visit was a 4’ x 6’ bound contemporary rug beige with two bold diagonal stripes of maroon and turquoise across the middle. It was valued at $458, and reduced to $115. A 6’ x 9’ bound rug in grey, with diamond shapes cut into it, was $89. And a 3’ x 6’ Oriental-style rug actually made in Belgium, with a country floral design on 100% wool was marked down from $ 150 to $99.
