Geoffrey’s Cafe Bar US Map & Phone & Address

578 Tremont St, Boston; (617) 266-1122

Although this part of the South End is on the coming side of up-and-coming, Geoffrey’s fills its menu with elegant, well-prepared dishes that won’t empty your wallet. How often can you order beef bourguignon with roasted garlic potatoes, and be billed a mere $9.95? Or shrimp and smoked salmon, with homemade mango chutney and fettucine in cream sauce for $11.95? Yowza.

Less expensive choices include unusual sandwiches and salads, like grilled Brazilian steak on toasted rye with black bean salsa for $7.50; same price for grilled eggplant with roasted peppers, caramelized onions, pesto, and mozzarella on pita bread. Lunchtime prices are generally the same, although traditional deli-style sandwiches are added in the afternoon for $4.95 to $5.95.

Geoffrey’s also serves breakfast. Specialties include challah French toast with fresh berries, and vegetarian eggs Benedict with spinach and tomato (each $6.95). Best of all (Mine is a confirmed night-owl), breakfast is served daily until 3 P.M. and on weekends until 4 P.M.! Geoffrey’s is open seven days until 10 P.M.
