The store manager remarked, We enjoy eating what we sell as much as the customer does, and you know if he said otherwise, he’d be lying. A longtime North End landmark for chocoholics, the clientele at Dairy Fresh consists not only of the public, but also chefs from restaurants all over town who bake this chocolate into their dessert creations.
The tiny establishment is literally jammed to the rafters with bargain-priced candy and nuts. At the front counter is an assortment of Peter’s chocolate, sold in bulk and not otherwise available for retail sale; it’s crudely broken into smaller pieces that can be had for $3.99 a pound. There’s also a wide variety of truffles, including amaretto, cherry, and Black Forest, which go for a reasonable $7.99 a pound (approximately 40 of ’em); a box of these are an ideal gift for any occasion, demanded even on the hottest days of the year.
You’ll also find pistachios for $3.99 per pound, flavorful Indian cashews for $4.99, and pecans (available year round oh rare!), for $7.99.
Dairy Fresh also boasts a truly inspiring selection of gummi candy, starting from $1.79 a pound (for Swedish fish), making Mine feel just like a kid in a ah, forget it. Open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, til 7 P.M. Fridays and Saturdays. Closed Sundays.
