Located next to the Soldier Creek Wilderness Area in Nebraska National Forest, this state park preserves the site of a historic fort. There are open prairie grasslands, rugged piney hills and buttes, some creeks, and a river.
Activities: Hiking and backpacking are available on several trails, and these connect with nearby National Forest trails. Horses are allowed. Cross-country skiing is feasible on some trails during winter. Fishing is possible along waterways.
Camping Regulations: Camping for backpackers is restricted to the northwest part of the park. It’s also permitted in the nearby Soldier Creek Wilderness Area and on other National Forest lands. Water must be carried in.
