Information, (617) 661-1515 Harvard Book Store runs a series of readings at the BPL and the CPL. These are held weekly, on either Tuesday or Wednesday evening, at 6 p.m. In the past, the series has attracted big names like C. Everett Koop and Garrison Keillor. Readings are followed by a chance to meet the authors and have them sign copies of their books.

If you want to see the biggest celebrity writers, head to Lauriat’s and its offspring, Royal Discount Bookstores. Lauriat’s has hosted signings by everyone from politicians Jimmy Carter and Dan Quayle to humorists Dave Barry and Don Imus. Readings, most of which take place at the Arlington branch of the Royal chain, have included Erica Jong, Apollo 13 astronaut James Lovell, and Pulitzer Prize-winner E. Annie Proulx.
